How People Fall Off The Earth by Sarah Lilius

How People Fall Off The Earth by Sarah Lilius

We could blame this on
. . . . . . . . . . . . .the weak gravity

Like porcelain plates
. . . . . . . . . . . . .children first, float
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .never seen again

The gutter of space
. . . . . . . . . . . . .takes us like a god
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .into complete silence
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .as we separate but never conquer

We can’t blame this on
. . . . . . . . . . . . .broken ozone layer

Skin covered muscle
. . . . . . . . . . . . .bones that don’t matter
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .not a plummet but more drift

When it’s time, you’ll know
. . . . . . . . . . . . .nothing to gather
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .not like heaven but it’s the heavens
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .soft animals, sadness

Pushes us off slightly
. . . . . . . . . . . . .we forget to bend knees, elbows

We crane our necks
. . . . . . . . . . . . .to look back at Earth
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .it’s really the time

Emotion not necessary
. . . . . . . . . . . . .nothing more to hold
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .what we did to fall
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .we felt, we left
