G. Davis Cathcart is an illustrator currently residing in Ridgewood Queens, New York City. He has studied art and illustration at the Cooper Union, Maryland Institute College of Art, and Rhode Island School of Design, where he graduated in 2012. He has worked for Maira Kalman, William Wegman, and The New Yorker’s art department. Davis currently teaches art to children of all ages in public schools all over New York City. Both RISD and the Society of Illustrators have given him awards for his illustration work. The work represented here is often described as a study on childhood, usually boyish but always depicted tenderly, overloaded with nostalgia. Even when dealing with aggressive subjects, these illustrations place an emphasis on discovery, adventure, and exploring new ground.
